Social Service and Community Development
Our parish is blessed with a rich diversity of experience and culture. Spanish-speaking members of our congregation include families whose roots in the United States stretch across three generations, as well as many others who have come to this country within the past decade.
The church is an important resource, especially for many new immigrants. It is a place where individuals from many parts of the world can come together to be leaders in the development of their community of faith, worshipping in their first language and celebrating traditions that are rooted in their homelands.
Trinity Parish builds bridges that connect parishioners with the larger community in and around Wilmington. Thanks to a grant from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund (www.dupontfund.org), Trinity Parish has a bilingual social worker on staff to support the "bridge building" work of the church. The social worker is available to respond directly to the needs of parishioners and facilitate their access to community resources.
You may reach Social Worker Kathleen Seipel by email or at 302-354-6876.
In addition, Trinity Parish is a place where people from different backgrounds can come together to examine how public policies affect the fundamental dignity of those among us. We teach each other through relationships, and together we learn how to advocate for just policies that will make our community stronger.
Our work is dependent on the efforts of partner organizations and culturally competent professionals who work in our community. They include:
- Friendship House Clothing Bank (www.friendship-house.org)
- Delaware Community Reinvestment Action Council (www.dcrac.org)
- Voices Without Borders (www.voiceswithoutborders.org)
- Nehemiah Gateway Community Development Corporation (www.nehemiahgateway.org)

Our classes for English Language Learners are a vital part of our ministry with our parishioners and with the wider community. We welcome beginners and more advanced students, and we provide a comfortable environment to practice the English language and talk about important community issues.
VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME - WE WANT YOU TO JOIN US!
We welcome native English speakers to come to classes to help students practice their conversational skills. No experience or Spanish language fluency is necessary ... just an open heart.
English Classes are taught by dedicated volunteers from our congregation. They draw from a variety of resources to teach basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. They also facilitate lively conversations about issues important to the students. Volunteers and students create a welcoming atmosphere, where students develop confidence and skills that they can use in their daily lives. Topics covered include: family, food, work, housing, education, health, holidays, church life, and community.
