Serving Others

Getting Involved

Jesus' commandment that we are to love God and our neighbor is expressed by our strong commitment to community outreach. We are glad to share with others something of the abundance with which we have been blessed-whether the need is just around the corner or halfway around the world.

Trinity Parish provides many opportunities for involvement. You can pick an activity or ministry that suits your schedule. Here are some examples of the opportunities we share. If you are interested in more information, please contact us.

Delaware Futures

Delaware Futures prepares disadvantaged youth for college by providing academic, social, motivational support and cultural enrichment activities throughout their high school experience. Upon high school graduation, students who meet the academic requirements qualify for partial or full tuition scholarships to one of ten partnering colleges.

Friendship House

Quiche_thumbFriendship House is a non-profit Christian corporation committed to making a difference in the lives of the homeless people of New Castle County, Delaware through the traditional spiritual ministries of hospitality, education, empowerment and community. Friendship House runs shelters, offers counseling and referral services, jobs programs, and transitional housing programs. Trinity members provide many services to support Friendship House programs. The ongoing ministries we support are:

Meals for the Homeless

On the first Monday of every month, volunteers provide dinner for 20-25 men at Andrew's Place, a neighborhood overnight shelter. Volunteers cook at home or gather at Trinity's kitchen on Monday afternoon to prepare a simple meal, which is then taken to Andrew's Place and shared with residents.

Winter Sanctuary

During the winter months, Trinity offers hospitality for homeless persons from 8:30am- 3:00pm on Sundays, before the overnight shelters open later in the day. Volunteers serve as hosts in the TRIAD meeting room, offering coffee and conversation along with a staff member from Friendship House.

Mission Team

Join a group for a week-long journey to Honduras for various projects. Volunteers are also needed as a home-based support team.

TRIAD (Trinity Alcohol and Drug Ministry)

An addictions counseling ministry together with the fifteen 12-step recovery meetings that take place in the TRIAD meeting room throughout the week. Our licensed addiction counselor works part-time and sees clients at no charge. TRIAD's clientele includes the uninsured or those seeking anonymity in their addiction recovery.

For more information about 12-Step programs in this area, go to the Northern Delaware Intergroup Alcoholics Anonymous website.

West Center City Seekers

Enrich the after-school experience of neighborhood children in grades 1-6. This program targets children from the West Center City area and meets at Grace Methodist Church. The Seekers program is sponsored by Trinity Parish, Grace Church, and St. Peter's Cathedral (R.C.). Volunteers are needed for field trips, activities, arts/crafts, and tutoring Monday - Friday from 3:00 pm through 6:00 p.m.

Youth Group Work Camp

The Trinity Parish Youth Group conducts a work camp every summer. Past experiences include repairing houses in Georgia, West Virginia, and Oklahoma, and cleaning up after forest fires in Los Alamos, New Mexico. In June 2006, teenagers and their adult advisors headed to St. Louis once more to witness God's work in their lives and the community they serve.

These initiatives are a sampling of the many ways we strive to fulfill our baptismal promises and to follow the example of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We invite you to visit us for more information about these and other spiritual opportunities and to join us in learning that it is really is "more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20.35)
